In Japan there are two types of shows:
- most important Honbuten taking place twice a year: every spring in Odate, where Akiho Headquarters is located; and late Autumn each time in different city organized by different Akiho branch.
- local shows Shibuten organized by Akiho branches all over Japan (each branch organizes one or two shows a year).

These are most specialist Akita shows judged by real experts of the breed.

The highest title Akita can receive in Japan is Meiyosho - the title can be obtained only in Seiken
A class (for dogs over 48th month of age) on Honbuten shows.
Second highest title is Tokuyuu - it can be obtained in Seiken class on Shibuten shows or Seiken B and Seiken A class on Honbuten shows.

There’s one Akiho show organized in Europe called Hozonkai Championship and it’s held once a year in Italy.
It is Shibuten rank show. Akitas are judged by official Akiho judges coming from Japan.
In coming years more Akiho shows are planned to be held in Europe organized by younger Akiho branches/

AKIHO - Akita inu Hozonkai - Akita Dog Preservation Association, was established in 1927 in Odate in Japan. It’s mission was to preserve the breed from crossbreeding. It is a default organisation for Akita in its origin country. The main goal of Akiho by today is to preserve the breed and promote Akita around the world.

First registration of Akita dogs was carried out in 1937 and one year later standard of the breed was created and first Akiho exhibition was held. After World War II Akiho exhibitions were held again in 1949 and same year firstAkiho biulletin was published. Then establishment of new branches started, first in
Tohoku, Kanto, Kansai, Hokkaido, Tokai Hokuriku, Chugoku Setouchi, Kyushu and Shikoku. Nowadays there are more than 50 branches in Japan and all around the world: in USA, China, Taiwan, Russia and Europe. In Europe there are already 5 branches: in Italy, Franche, Ukraine, Bulgaria and newest one in Poland (Akiho Central Europe).
